Taupo is situated on the largest Lake in the Pacific, which is also a Super Volcano and one of only 6 on Planet Earth. The local Maori Tribes say that Lake Taupo last erupted around 181 AD,  however close by and South of the Lake is the Tongariro National Park, New Zealand's Oldest National Park, where you will find our the Volcano's, Tongariro, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu which has erupted a number of times in the last 20 years.
 
In the Tongariro National Park you can enjoy the many walks and the ultimate Tongariro Alpine Crossing, this is a full day Hike and this you can do by yourself or guided. However we always suggest you contact the Local Information or DOC Centers for up to date weather forecasts and understand how to prepare for rapid weather changes during your hike.
 
Enjoy Activities galore in the Lake Taupo Region from White Water Rafting or Sky Diving, a visit to Huka Falls to see and hear the thuder of the water as it passes beneath you from the Bridge or take a Jet Boat up close and personal to the falls. Fishing and Cruising on the Lake is a joy all in the gaze of Mt Rupehu. Why not take a sail of Erol Flynn's old sailing vessel, fully restored and offers daily cruises under full sail pass the Maori carvings to enjoy the grandeur of the beautiful Lake.

Tongariro National Park

The first National Park in New Zealand was the Tongariro Natonal Park and is also a World Heritage Area. With our three Volcanoes, Mt Tongariro, Mt Ngaruruhoe and Mt Ruapehu. In winter June to OPctober this area offers great skiing at Tukino and Whakapapa, This area was also used for the filming of the Lord of the Rings and is a must place to visit for Lord of the Rings movie followers.

Te Kuiti

Te Kuiti is Sheep and Shearing Country and each year Championships are held at The Great Muster. This is the perfect place to enjoy a great event with stalls and Maori Cultural performers.

Their is a Timber Trail where you can enjoy Biking through the Pureora Forest Park, which will take you over suspension bridges where you can enjoy the scenery of ravines and rivers. This trail is an Easy Grade 2 to an Intermediate Grade 3. We ask that you prepare yourself with all you need for your day, to ensure you have water and food provisions and inform someone that you are doing the trail. You should take with you Warm clothing and wet weather gear as the track passes through 1000 ft above sea level at points. You should always be aware that weather changes rapidly in New Zealand. Prepare and be safe and enjoy The Timber Trail.

Mangakino

The small Town Magakimo is located on the Shores of Lake Maraetai and near to Hydro Dams and Lakes of Atiamuri, Waipara, Whakamaru and Ohakuri.

The Hydro Lakes are a great place for Fishing, and Boating as well as Hiking Trail as well as Waikato River Trail.

Whakamaru

The small Village of Whakamaru is a place where one can rest and relax, unwind and enjoy the lakes and boating activities. You could enjoy a walk at over the Hydro Dam with beautiful views of Lake Arapuni.

Acacia Bay
