Chris - Cruise to Mou Waho Island Nature Reserve Half Day Tour

This morning Chris will collect you from your accommodation for a half-day trip to Mou Waho Island. Chris Riley is a passionate guide and will enjoy sharing with you the delights of this area as you explore Lake Wanaka as you cruise to Mou Waho Island Nature Reserve, which lies close to the centre of the Lake. A unique glacial remnant of the last ice age, the island is also the historic site of early shipbuilding and used to be a stopping place for the steamers and log rafts that once plied the lake.

Accessible from Wanaka via a 35-minute boat cruise, where you will land on the eastern side of the island, here the remnants of the early settlement remain; a stone wharf and a hut. There is a well-formed track leading from the landing and climbs steadily through native bush to near the top of Tyrwhitt Peak. Just before the top, we see Arethusa Pool, a small lake on the island with small islands in it - very intriguing! Here you will stop for Morning or Afternoon Tea and meet the friendly Weka Bird.

From the top, we have a sweeping 360-degree view of Lake Wanaka, its surrounding mountains and valleys, and below Arethusa Pool, you will plant a tree to help put back what our visit takes, you will also be able to see up the West Coast, seeing how the Glaciers formed what you see today

Cost for 2 Adult to include Gourmet Picnic NZD$1,298.75
