Life before New Zealand Encounters?
Before I landed at New Zealand Encounters I worked in the travel industry off and on over the years. After 11 years of travelling the Globe, becoming older and hopefully wiser, I came back to this southern hemisphere paradise. I consider myself lucky to have a job I enjoy so much and in such a fantastic location as Whitianga on The Coromandel.
Favourite New Zealand destination and why?
Which one? I have three! Waiheke Island near Auckland has alway been one of my favourites - so I spent my Honeymoon there! Located just a short ferry ride from Auckland, yet a world away with it’s many gorgeous sandy beaches, picturesque bays, great cafes, local arts, crafts and many vineyards. Naturally, I am also going to say the Coromandel Peninsula for the stunning scenery. The Fiordland National Park is a truly spectacular part of the country offering so much to see and do. Still, there are so many places in this country I am yet to discover, so watch this space!
Most memorable request from a client?
Some time ago one of my American clients living in Japan accidentally left a 5 foot tall traditional Maori Sword (Tiaha) behind here in New Zealand. I assisted with reuniting them with this by sending it on to them in Japan. Dealing with the Customs Department regarding this rather unusual souvenir was interesting to say the least!
