Waikato Regional Information

The Waikato Region typifies the country farming lifestyle of New Zealand. Rolling green hillsides and seemingly endless dairy farms, which are all connected by the mighty Waikato River(the majority of the sheep stations are in the South Island).

Many travellers visit this region to enjoy a genuine farmstay or to expereince the mysterious and adventurous Waitomo Caves. These famous limestone caves offer more than the typical stalagtites and stalagmite formations, they offer unique adventures like black water rafting and abseiling into the Lost World!

The region has also become very popular lately, due to the location of Hobbiton (just outside the town of Matamata) from the popular Lord of the Rings trilogy.
