Central Otago Regional Information

This is the outback New Zealand style!

From the orchard and wine region in and around Cromwell, to the historic charm of Clyde, the lunar landscapes of Alexandra or the big sky country around Ranfurly, few international travellers get to share in the delight of this "outback".

Cromwell is only an hour from Queenstown so many travel through Cromwell. Near by is the historic little town of Clyde that has more character than Mickey Mouse!

Alexandra is out of this world...literaly! You will feel like you have arrived on the moon. The rock formations are fascinating and the morning and afternoon light creates what seems like an ever changing stage. Steeped in gold mining history, ruins from old gold miners cottages are scattered amongst the lunar landscape.

The "Big Sky Country" around Ranfurly has inspired many artists. It is a desolate and untamed region. Accommodation in the region is few and far between.

A visit to this district must include stop at St Bathams, a picturesque old gold mining town with a spooky history.
